Welcome to Rosemary Bray Ceramics

I grew up and now have returned to live in an arts and crafts town. When I returned,  I began to look for decorative and functional Arts and Crafts ceramics, to decorate my home. It quickly became clear that they were very much out of my price range and so I began taking ceramics classes to see if I could make pots, tiles and plates of my own.

Doing some international research, I fell in love with the simplicity of design and colour palette of American Arts and Crafts ceramics at the beginning of the last century.

I have now created some of my own designs to sell, most of which focus on our native flora. For each of these pieces sold I make a donation to the charity Plantlife who work to restore and maintain wildlife habitats in the UK

The Arts and Crafts Movement

The Arts and Crafts movement was a rejection of industrialisation,  the rise of mass produced goods and concern for the environment. Their answer was a return to traditional skills and designs, which often focussed upon native flora and fauna and the importance of producers being able to take joy and pride in producing their work.

I believe that these are concerns we still hold today and I try to keep the goals of simplicity of design, use of traditional methods in making and glazing techniques and using native flora in my designs.
